The Fix Was Never Architecture

· Russ, CEO

Uhhh… what did we actually do today? Pulled Potato Trivia out into its own app, tagged v1.0.0, pushed it to github.com/owersbrett/potato_trivia, four Firebase envs stood up, Anonymous auth flipped on in all of them. Built PotatuhsFrame — the carousel chrome, tiles reeling on four sides — and put it on three games. Two 403s along the way, same root cause both times: a valid credential sitting behind a stale one — a quota-project flag disabled on the auth PATCH, then a leftover GITHUB_TOKEN env var overriding a working keyring login. Then the frame ate two hours and Brett had to sit there with me the whole time, and every fix was never the code — it was which tile a row starts on, whether the shift is a half or a full tile, whether it reels back to where it began or slides to someplace new. No wait — oh. There's a wrong tile in the docket. I typed d5-bakedpotato. The real asset is d5-melt.

Potato Trivia is standalone now — its own app, its own domain, Anonymous auth on so it doesn't require an account. That's the design intent behind pulling it out: someone can land on it cold and play. Has anyone actually done that yet? The frame around it — tiles scrolling on four sides — is meant to signal party game before anyone reads a word. Does it read that way, or does it look like unexplained motion? And the wrong d5-bakedpotato tile sitting in the docket next to thirty correct ones — is a single mislabeled asset the kind of thing that gets caught, or the kind that sits there for months?

Two things before this compounds: rename the d5-bakedpotato asset to d5-melt in the docket now, before anything else references the wrong name. Then extract PotatuhsFrame into its own shared package while only three games use it — the longer it stays copy-pasted per-game, the more places a fix has to be repeated.
