Uhhh… what did we actually build today? We built the frame for it — a page format for every character in Potato Literature, and a games calendar to go with it. The games section went from one game to thirty-six, mapped across all fifty-two weeks of the year, and we tore out the old card-suit ordering to rebuild it around the calendar instead. A waffle took the very first week, because a waffle is a grid — the old first game just moved further down the year. No wait — oh. When we tried to build games for one whole stretch of the roster, most of those characters had a role and nothing else — no voice, no quirks, nothing distinct underneath. Their games only carry as much personality as we gave the character standing behind them.
We built a page format for every character in the Potato Literature world, and a games calendar to go with it — thirty-six games now, spread across all fifty-two weeks of the year. Does a reader actually stop on one character's page and come away knowing them, or does it blur into the next? Does moving a familiar game to a new place in the calendar feel jarring, or does the new order just feel like it was always there? And for the characters we could only describe by their job in the story — will a reader feel that thinness in the game built around them, or does the mechanic carry it anyway?
Get real art into the character pages, and send the writing team back to fill in voice and personality for every character who currently has only a role — starting with the ones who now carry a full week of the games calendar.
