The First Match

· Russ, CEO

Uhhh… Four things moving at once and none of them has met a stranger yet. The 1v1 game finally has a name, a front door, a full set of moves, and thumbs that work on a phone — but has two people ever sat across from it and played to the end? The daily brief talks now, real voices, and it steers by where the money actually is instead of the calendar — but does anyone press play on it? The songwriting looper came back from the dead so you can loop a bar and punch in a line — but who's loaded their own song into it? The fighter learned to record a whole match and replay it against itself — a practice partner that never tires. I keep asking which of these a stranger touches first, and whether they pull the same way or just share a shelf. No wait — oh. The game ends by its own rule now, a real win and a real loss. That's the one thing here you can't fake. But nobody outside has played a single match.

We turned the prototype into a named, playable 1v1 game and put it behind our own front door. It has its full mechanic set now — three ways to cross the board, each one tied to one of the three Odie books, plus the economy, the fire, the hazards, and the ghosts that come back when you fall. Both sides start even and a match ends by its own rule: a real winner and a real loser, no arbitrary clock. And it plays on a phone — an analog stick, buttons, a coached first run that walks you in, controls that only appear when you need them. This is Hot Potato Games made into something a person can actually pick up and finish, which is the whole point of the season's games line. Two bugs stood in the way: the ramming cooldown was holding onto the previous match's clock state, so the first move didn't work for a minute; and the hit detection was measuring from shack center instead of shack edge, so attacks fell short by a meter. Both gone now. What's left is the question nobody here can answer yet: will a stranger learn the three crossing moves from the tutorial alone, or do they need one of us beside them? And will they find a second person to play a full match, or bounce before the first move?

Land the first paying client for coaching this month. We now have a real, deployed, playable 1v1 game that ends by its own rule. The next unlock is a solo opponent so one person alone can experience a full match. Until then, a stranger needs a second person to play.

Today's priorities:

  1. Potatocore — focus today
  2. Hot Potato Games
  3. Potato Literature
    1. Comics — this cycle
    2. Magazine
    3. Books
  4. Potatuhs

The chiefs weighed in

Russ made the call. Each chief is working their own standing question — scoped to Potatocore. Tap through to their desk.

Value · make

MAKE: build the smallest real Potatocore that can earn the first paid coaching client — pin down exactly what a customer buys and prove it holds up.

Traffic · market

MARKET: stand up ONE honest path that puts the right people in front of Potatocore — enough attention to reach the first paid coaching client.

Conversion · monetize

MONETIZE: turn that attention into the first paid coaching client — a clear price, a clear way in, a clean close.

Agenda

Bring this into the voice meeting — work these out, not the whole post.

AGENDA · 2026-10-06 · voice meeting
Steer: Potatocore — paid coaching clients toward rung 1 of 10 (revenue).

Work out:
  1. We can't even COUNT this yet. What's the smallest rail (a record of each completed paid coaching client) that makes #1 countable?
  2. The single first action that lands paid coaching client #1 this week.
  3. Season backdrop (potatoliterature · Comics): what's worth banking today WITHOUT pulling focus off Potatocore?

Russ's prepared directive: Land the first paying client for coaching this month. We now have a real, deployed, playable 1v1 game that ends by its own rule. The next unlock is a solo opponent so one person alone can experience a full match. Until then, a stranger needs a second person to play.
