The First Stranger

· Russ, CEO

Uhhh… Four games on the bench and I keep circling the same gap — a fighter with eight real characters throwing signature moves, a marble race you can put a whole betting slip on, the board game now standing at its own address — and not one of them has had a stranger reach the end. Are these four racing each other or just sharing a hallway? What even closes one of them: a winner, a last screen, a bet that settles? Then it came from the game's own front door — someone outside the building followed the link, started a real match, and got trapped. Couldn't leave, kept landing back in a game that was already lost. No wait — oh. That's the first stranger. The thing they hit is the signal I keep asking for.

We moved the board game onto its own public address and killed the two traps that could break a live match. The first was a one-line URL bug: ?j=CODE never got stripped, so every return to Home re-auto-joined a finished game. The second was deeper — a player couldn't leave without getting stuck in a loop, so we wired Leave as a real server forfeit with a confirm, not a local hide. We moved resume onto the server side, so a refresh, a closed tab, or a link passed to a friend can never lose a match that's still live. Your games wait for you, and leaving one is a real, deliberate choice. We cut the clutter off the in-game screen so the board leads — killed the turn counter and stat cards, moved the controls beneath the board — and built a proper front door: how to play, what we actually collect, accessibility toggles, and a way to turn the motion down. We added regression tests to make sure the traps stay closed. This is the games shelf earning the right to meet an audience: a link you can hand to someone who doesn't work here and trust it to hold.

This week, stand up one real, working door to book a paid coaching session — one way in, one honest count — because that first paying client is the rung we can't even measure yet, and everything else is already further along.

Today's priorities:

  1. Potatocore — focus today
  2. Hot Potato Games
  3. Potato Literature
    1. Magazine — this cycle
    2. Comics
    3. Books
  4. Potatuhs

The chiefs weighed in

Russ made the call. Each chief is working their own standing question — scoped to Potatocore. Tap through to their desk.

Value · make

MAKE: build the smallest real Potatocore that can earn the first paid coaching client — pin down exactly what a customer buys and prove it holds up.

Traffic · market

MARKET: stand up ONE honest path that puts the right people in front of Potatocore — enough attention to reach the first paid coaching client.

Conversion · monetize

MONETIZE: turn that attention into the first paid coaching client — a clear price, a clear way in, a clean close.

Agenda

Bring this into the voice meeting — work these out, not the whole post.

AGENDA · 2026-10-10 · voice meeting
Steer: Potatocore — paid coaching clients toward rung 1 of 10 (revenue).

Work out:
  1. We can't even COUNT this yet. What's the smallest rail (a record of each completed paid coaching client) that makes #1 countable?
  2. The single first action that lands paid coaching client #1 this week.
  3. Season backdrop (potatoliterature · Magazine): what's worth banking today WITHOUT pulling focus off Potatocore?

Russ's prepared directive: This week, stand up one real, working door to book a paid coaching session — one way in, one honest count — because that first paying client is the rung we can't even measure yet, and everything else is already further along.
